Havdalah Service and Vigil in Support of Immigrants and Refugees
Please join us for a Jewish Community Vigil in support of immigrants and refugees. This event, which will include a musical, community-wide havdalah service, will raise awareness of the struggles of refugees and undocumented immigrants in our city, our country, and around the world. It will give us a chance to articulate why so many of us feel that the struggles of immigrants and refugees are Jewish issues. We will also have a chance to learn from frontline communities in our region how we can we can take action.
At a moment when homes are being raided and immigrants deported, Jewish cemeteries are being desecrated, and mosques are being burned, it is incumbent on all frontline communities to stand up for one another however and whenever we can. This vigil will be a moment for Pittsburgh’s Jewish community to spiritually galvanize itself in preparation for that struggle.
We will be hearing from Rabbi Seth Adelson of Congregation Beth Shalom, Rabbi Doris Dyen of Congregation Makom HaLev, Tammy Hepps from Bend the Arc: Pittsburgh, community song-leader Sara Stock Mayo, Wasi Mohamed of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh, and many more.
